TX-Media was a four-year ISP project funded under the European Commission’s 6th Framework Programme. It addressed the challenge of knowledge management in complex distributed environments. The project aimed to study, develop, and implement large-scale methodologies and techniques for managing knowledge across different media (images, documents, and data) and repositories. It sought to support the sharing and reuse of knowledge that was inaccessible to current systems, which could not capture implicit knowledge across media.

The Knowledge Media Institute’s contribution focused on three areas: developing methodologies for knowledge sharing across multiple media formats, creating methods for knowledge fusion to merge information from various sources, and developing a semantic browsing approach to support continuous exploration and perspective building.
