The ReFLEx project explored how semantic web technologies could be applied to support students’ use of OU course materials and related online resources within an integrated learning environment.

The project investigated the existing use of metadata within established OU systems, such as Planet, Tracker, and CIRCE, as well as the potential of new metadata schemes that were being developed for use within the OU’s Virtual Learning Environment. The project informed the development and application of semantic web technologies for learning by developing tools that made use of structured course-related descriptions to improve students’ access and use of learning resources.
