About

In accord with Tim Berners-Lee’s vision of a Semantic Web as “an extension of the current one, in which information was given well-defined meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in cooperation,” the OntoWeb Network was set up to provide support for, disseminate information on, and encourage the development of, ontologies as the essential technology for the Semantic Web.

KMi was involved firstly, in establishing a technical roadmap of the Ontology field in Europe and worldwide, and secondly, in the development of an educational knowledge portal which provided access to a variety of resources enabling users to become acquainted with the technical, social, and commercial aspects of the Semantic Web.
