iServe was referred to as a service warehouse that unified service publication, analysis, and discovery through lightweight semantics and advanced discovery and analytic capabilities. It provided typical service registry features along with additional functionality that leveraged service descriptions, annotations, and data collected from Web crawling, periodic monitoring, and user activities.
A key feature of iServe was its ability to publish service descriptions as Linked Data, regardless of their original format. These Linked Services helped developers find Web services and APIs to enhance their applications. iServe was the first Linked Services discovery platform available online.
The platform was based on the Minimal Service Model, which described services in RDF, abstracting from various annotation formats such as SAWSDL, WSMO-Lite, MicroWSMO, and OWL-S. iServe automatically converted service descriptions into RDF and exposed them as Linked Data, enabling easy discovery, interlinking, and invocation of services.
To facilitate data access and manipulation, iServe provided three interfaces: a Web-based browser for browsing and uploading services, a SPARQL endpoint for querying hosted data, and a RESTful API for direct application integration. Additionally, it offered Web-based tools, SWEET and SOWER, for annotating and publishing service descriptions.
