About

Evolva Logo

Evolva was an ontology evolution tool designed to handle tasks such as information discovery from external data sources, data validation, ontology updates, and managing and validating evolution. Its primary goals were to establish a complete cycle of ontology evolution and reduce user input throughout the process.

A key feature of Evolva was its reliance on various background knowledge sources for integrating new information. These sources included lexical databases like WordNet and online ontologies. This background knowledge facilitated the addition of new concepts by linking them to existing ones in the ontology, minimising the need for user intervention.

Framework

Evolva’s framework consisted of five components: Data Discovery, Data Validation, Ontological Changes, Evolution Validation, and Evolution Management.
