About

There was a growing base of open educational content available online, including 650 units of course material on OpenLearn and 3,800 audio and video podcasts from The Open University. With so much content, discoverability of educational resources became a significant challenge.
DiscOU was a resource discovery engine that relied on a semantic index of Open University Open Content. It semantically analysed the content of an online resource and matched it by similarity to other Open University materials to retrieve the most relevant resources. It worked with BBC programme pages as well as with text entered or pasted into the DiscOU alpha interface.
